Remembered Before God

Remembered Before God: I know I’ve written something along these lines before, but it nevertheless struck me again today. I had just written to a friend whom I only occasionally correspond with. In all reality, I have “known” this brother for somewhere around thirty years, although we have never actually met. That in itself is rather remarkable. We probably only exchange a note every couple of months, but in his reply he said something very simple: “You are in our prayers.”

Why is that such an overwhelming thought to me? We hear people say, “I’ll pray for you,” and perhaps sometimes the words become almost commonplace, maybe even a little cliché. But then you stop and really think about what is being said. Somewhere, at some point, another person has brought you before God. They have thought about you when you were nowhere near them, perhaps when you had not spoken for weeks, and your name, your life, your needs entered into their prayers.

There is something wonderfully mysterious about that. We have no idea how many prayers have been offered for us through the years, or how the Lord has been pleased to use them. Perhaps some of the help we have received, some of the strength we did not know we needed, some of the mercies that carried us along, came in ways connected to prayers we never even knew were being prayed. I don’t know. But I do know this: there is something deeply humbling and incredibly precious about realizing that somewhere, someone is praying for you. MPJ
